The Search for the Finest Bowl
We are not a passive reseller. We travel to train with masters, test instruments in live practice, and apply acoustic standards that most suppliers have never encountered. Our R&D is ongoing because the finest instrument available today is not necessarily the finest available tomorrow.
Our Minimum Standards
Every bowl we stock must meet all four criteria before we carry it.
We test silicon dioxide content via supplier certification and acoustic analysis. Impurities shorten sustain and cloud the overtone series.
Each bowl in our range must sustain its fundamental tone for at least 45 seconds at room temperature. Poor manufacturing cuts this to under 20s.
We verify every bowl is within 3 cents of its stated note using calibrated reference equipment. Wider deviation undermines chakra alignment work.
We listen for at least three clean overtones above the fundamental. Muddy or buzzing harmonics indicate wall-thickness inconsistency.
How We Vet Every Supplier
A five-stage process that runs before any bowl reaches our customers. We have rejected suppliers at every stage — including after committing to a trial order.
Source Documentation
We request full quartz origin documentation from every prospective supplier — where the silica was mined, purity certificates, and manufacturing process details. We do not stock bowls made from recycled or industrial-grade quartz.
Sample Order & Acoustic Testing
Before any supplier relationship is established, we order a sample set and test every piece: pitch accuracy, sustain duration, overtone clarity, and wall consistency. We record and analyse waveforms to identify resonance anomalies invisible to casual listening.
Practitioner Field Testing
Sample bowls are used in real sound bath sessions — private, couples, and group — and evaluated on their therapeutic impact. We listen to client feedback, observe physiological responses, and assess how each bowl performs in an actual healing context rather than a silent testing room.
Durability & Consistency Audit
We test thermal stability, rim integrity, and impact resilience before committing to volume orders. A bowl that chips on first use or develops a buzz after mild temperature change fails our standard regardless of how it sounds initially.
Ongoing Review
Supplier relationships are reviewed continuously. If quality drops across a batch — even slightly — we investigate immediately and pause orders until resolved. We have walked away from cost-effective suppliers on these grounds.
Our Research Journey
Founded in 2023. Each year has added a new layer to our understanding of what the finest crystal singing bowl actually is.
2023
Founded
Singing Bowls Australia launched from a personal healing journey, with a commitment to only stock instruments we would use ourselves in professional practice.
2024
Soma Energetics Partnership
Became an authorised Soma Energetics supplier, bringing professional-grade tuning forks and the Solfeggio frequency system into our range alongside crystal bowls.
2025
Crystal Tones™ Authorised Supplier
Achieved authorised supplier status for Crystal Tones™ — the premier USA-made alchemy singing bowl manufacturer. Crystal Tones fuses gemstones, minerals, and metals into high-purity quartz, producing instruments at the frontier of sound healing technology.
2025
Gong Training — Benton Mehtab
Our founder completed gong facilitation training under Benton Mehtab, adding the science of gong bath facilitation to our practical research. This deepened our understanding of how planetary instruments interact with crystal bowl frequencies.
2026
Don Conreaux Training — USA
In June 2026 we travelled to the United States for gong training with Don Conreaux — known internationally as "Grandpa Gong," co-founder of 3HO and author of Gong Yoga. Training with practitioners at this level accelerated our understanding of what the finest instruments are capable of — and what to demand from suppliers.
2026
Highest-Purity Supplier Identified
During our US trip we sourced our current finest supplier — the highest-purity crystal bowl manufacturer we have yet encountered. We tested their instruments extensively with professional practitioners before committing to our first order. The results were clear: cleaner fundamental, longer sustain, and a more coherent overtone series than anything we had previously stocked.
Why Purity Matters
The difference between a 99% quartz bowl and a 99.99% quartz bowl is not marketing. Impurities — whether metallic oxides, calcium, or trapped air — dampen resonance and shorten sustain. They introduce noise into the overtone series. They make the bowl harder to rim consistently.
In a sound healing context, this matters clinically. A bowl that buzzes, fades quickly, or produces incoherent harmonics cannot do the entrainment work a clean bowl can. Our practitioners know the difference because they use these instruments in every session.
That is the underlying principle of our R&D: bowls are therapeutic instruments, not decorative objects. We hold them to therapeutic standards.
